Buying a piano is not cheap and so it pays to take a little time and understand exactly what it is you want. Do you want something you can travel with, is just for practice, will it be used by all the family including children etc. The other point to keep in mind when buying a piano is space. Grand pianos are large object that need a lot of room to get the best out of them so if you haven't got the room for something so imposing, consider an upright piano instead. The sound difference is not that big if you buy a good quality upright piano but they are much smaller in size and fit neatly into any corner of a room.
Of course you also need to consider the conditions you will be keeping you piano in. Make sure that the room temperature and humidity is kept at a constant level to avoid swelling and movement of the wood as this will play havoc with your tuning. Make sure you have the piano regularly service and tuned and get the best out of it. Pianos are built to take a specific amount of stress and perform best within those parameters.
Of course if all this seems like too much work for you then you could always opt for a digital piano. Digital pianos are getting better and better all the time and they do have some distinct advantages of acoustic pianos. They don't need tuning for one and they are smaller and easier to move. They also come with a wider range of sounds from grand pianos to harpsichords and even brass and string instruments. The main drawback of course is that they need power and so need connecting to a socket.
