History of the Cello
The history of the Cello is an interesting one and the name itself has it’s origins in Italy. The term Cello comes from the Italian word, violoncello and stands for little Violone.
The style of music most associated with the Cello is European classical music and is often described as the closest instrument to the Human voice. Many great Cellists and composers use this connection when writing and playing pieces for the Cello. The Cello is the known as the bass voice of the String instruments and fill the lower register in any string quartet.
The cello has had a bit of a revival due to the interest, not only in classical Cellists but also modern pop music are now discovering the amazing tones and quality of the Cello and other string instruments as a way of adding depth to their music. Even hip-hop as now discovered the Cello and some of the best known Cellists are in high demand amongst hip-hop and popular music circles.

Are intention is to try and inspire more people to take up a string instrument and fall in love with the tomes and dramatic way these instruments can be played and also the amount of joy learning a complex instrument like a cello or Violin can bring to your life.

Types of String Instrument
When you’re deciding on which string instrument you’d like to try it’s important to understand how they are broken down.
All string instruments can be broken down into three main groups and they are:
Lutes – any string instruments that is plucked and contains a neck that is fretted or unfretted. Members of this group include instruments such as Cellos, Violins, Guitars etc.
Harps – any string instruments that have their strings contained within a frame fall into this category and these include Harps.
Zithers – any instruments that have their strings mounted on a body fall into this category including Cimbalom and Guqins.
